LED Lights Are Here to Stay…

LED lights are here to stay and they offer many advantages. They guarantee a ‘greener’ future. So what is LED light? The acronym stands for light-emitting diode – a solid-state lighting that uses a semiconductor to convert electricity into light. Let’s look at their key features and benefits:

  • LED bulbs are 6-7 times more efficient than incandescent ones and use ~80% less energy.
  • They last 25 times longer than traditional bulbs. If an LED fixture runs for 8h per day, it would take around 20 years before you’d have to replace the LED bulb.
  • Fluorescent light bulbs contain mercury that’s dangerous for the environment. LED lights contain no toxic materials and are 100% recyclable – help to reduce your carbon footprint by up to one third.
  • About 80% of an LED’s electrical energy is converted to light, whereas 80% of a traditional incandescent bulb’s energy is lost as heat.
  • LEDs are durable. They can withstand rough conditions and are not affected by low temperatures. Because LED lights are resistant to shock, vibration and external impact, they are well suited to outdoor lighting systems and exposure to inclement weather.
  • LED illumination produces little infrared light and close to no UV emissions. Because of this, LED lighting is highly suitable for goods and materials that are sensitive to heat as well as for illumination of UV sensitive objects or materials (i.e., in museums, art galleries, etc.)
  • LED lights are ‘instant on’ unlike compact fluorescent bulbs. They power on immediately and can be switched on and off frequently without impact to their life expectancy or light emission.
  • A low-voltage power supply is sufficient for LED illumination. It’s a definite advantage in remote or rural areas.
